"It's Hot, It's Cold, It's Color" Exhibition at the Center of the Arts of Bonita Springs

My two abstracts were juried into this month's show at the Center for the Arts of Bonita Springs. The following is the info. on the show. I hope to see you there.

It’s Hot, It’s Cold, It’s COLOR Exhibition
● August 7 - 27, 2015
● Opening Reception: Friday, August 7, 2015, 6pm-8pm
● For artists, color can be a seductive romance. It can also be a battlefield. Color can pull at our heart strings or relieve stress. For many of us it is how we interpret our world; what clothes we like to wear and what food looks good to eat. Colors can complement or contrast one another. Some colors are attractive and some are repulsive. In this exhibition we will find how representational and abstract work uses intensity, saturation, vibrancy, and hue to convey a message and emotion about a subject.

While I tend to work alla prima in the impressionist to realist spectrum, I love to paint abstracts, too.  I love the direct emotional transfer that occurs when I paint them.  Color, value, shape, line, and texture develop before me on the blank canvas in a sort of stream of consciousness. Yes, there are many principles of abstract painting that guide you. But, I try not to allow the "rules" to interfere with the process of creation.

Here are my paintings that will be in the show:

"Homeless",  20" x 24", canvas, mixed media

"Blood Moon",  36" x 36", canvas, mixed media

New Painting

I just completed a new painting titled "Cove Sunrise".  This is a beautiful part of the world down the road from my previous home in East Tennessee. I have painted this location before and I will paint it again.  It was such a wonderful, peaceful, and beautiful place to paint in the early morning. I have fond memories.

I moved into my new studio in Naples, FL!

I recently moved into a new art studio located at Anne Chaddock Studios, 2180 J & C Blvd., Naples, FL,  The area is the the up and coming place for art known as the "The Naples Art District", with about 60 artists concentrated in the immediate vicinity.

I share the studio with Anne Chaddock, an extremely talented and successful artist. Her studio is downstairs in the back in a huge, airy, room with natural light from above.  My studio is upstairs in 3 work rooms and a storage room.  It is not quite as open, but very practical, and exactly what I was looking for. I still have some organizing and sorting to do.  By the way, I now call myself  "The Artist in the Attic".

We hosted our first wine and cheese gallery reception together last week.  It went very well with around 40 people in attendance.

We share a very nice gallery downstairs in the front entrance of the building. Here are some photos of my new artist home:
